This notice explains how Find Driving School uses personal information in connection with finddrivingschool.co.uk. It covers visitors, registered users, listing owners and people who contact us. Find Driving School is responsible for the personal information it processes to run this directory. You can raise a privacy question or exercise your rights through our Contact Us page.

1. Information we collect

• Account information: your name, email address, password in protected form, verification status and any optional phone number or profile information you provide.
• Listing information: business or instructor name, description, location or service area, contact details, prices, photographs and other information submitted for publication.
• Communications: enquiries, support requests, reports about listings and any messages or attachments submitted through the website.
• Technical information: IP addresses, request times, browser or device details and logs generated when you access the site, used to operate it and investigate errors or misuse.
• Choices: your marketing preferences and account or website settings.

Most information comes from you or the person who manages a listing. A complaint or enquiry may also contain information supplied by another user. Please provide only what is necessary and do not send passwords, payment-card details, driving-licence copies or sensitive personal information through ordinary enquiries.

2. Purposes and legal bases

• Providing account and listing services: we use the details needed to register you, verify your email, manage your listing and provide requested account functions to perform our agreement with you or take steps at your request before it.
• Running and protecting the directory: we use technical records, reports and correspondence for our legitimate interests in maintaining a reliable service, preventing fraud, addressing misuse and answering enquiries. We balance these interests against your rights.
• Legal obligations: we process information where necessary to comply with a legal duty, lawful request or applicable record-keeping requirement.
• Optional marketing: where we ask for your consent, promotional emails depend on that choice. You can withdraw it through an unsubscribe option or by contacting us. Essential account and security messages are separate from marketing.

Fields marked as required are needed to process the relevant registration, listing or enquiry. If you do not provide them, we may be unable to provide that function. Optional fields can be left blank.

3. Public listings and contact with schools

Information you submit for display in a listing can be seen by website visitors and may be indexed by search engines or copied by others. Use business contact details where possible and review your listing before publishing. Do not assume that information written in a description or included in an image is private.

When you contact an instructor or follow a link to another website, that provider is responsible for how it uses information you give it. Its privacy policy and booking terms apply to that separate relationship. Removing content from our site cannot immediately remove copies held by search engines or other websites.

4. Who may receive information

Access is limited to people and service providers who need information to operate the website, hosting, maintenance, email delivery or support, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection arrangements. Intended recipients receive enquiries or messages you send to them. We may disclose relevant information where legally required, to handle a legal claim or to address suspected fraud in a lawful and proportionate way.

We do not authorise use of account information for unrelated third-party marketing. Public listing information remains publicly accessible. If a service arrangement involves transferring personal information outside the UK, the transfer must have an applicable lawful safeguard, such as adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards. 5. Cookies and browser storage

Technical logs and backup copies have operational retention periods rather than remaining public.

When reviewing a deletion request, we consider whether information is still required for an active service, an unresolved dispute, security, a legal obligation or a legal claim. Information no longer needed should be deleted or anonymised. Backup copies may take longer to leave the backup cycle and should not be used to restore deleted information to routine use. You may ask us about the retention criteria applying to your records.

7. Security

We use access controls and technical measures to protect the service, but no internet service is completely risk-free. Keep your password private, use a unique password and tell us about suspected unauthorised access. We will not ask you to send your password or verification code through our contact form.

8. Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to your information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing or a portable copy. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and object to direct marketing. Where consent is the legal basis, you can withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Contact us with enough detail to identify your request. We may ask for proportionate information to confirm your identity. Requests are normally handled within one month, subject to the rules on identity checks, clarification and permitted extensions. These rights are subject to legal conditions; if we cannot fully fulfil a request, we will explain why.

You can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator. You do not lose that right by contacting us first.

9. Young users and changes

Young learners should involve a parent or guardian when arranging lessons or sharing information with providers. Tell us if a listing contains a child's information or image without appropriate permission so that we can review it.

We may update this notice as the service or legal requirements change. The date above identifies the latest version. A notice update does not itself give us consent for a new use of your information. Material changes will be explained where required.
